Thomas Unterfrauner has been busy planning the championships in his home town of Seefeld for some two years. “Unti”, as everyone here calls him, works as an electrician in summer and as a cross-country skiing instructor in winter. But above all else, he is a bright guy who is able to lead a whole team of technicians and helpers to organize in Seefeld what any event manager dreams of – perfect world championships.

Thomas Unterfrauner is the Chief of Course at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld.
Material supplies directly at the race course
As the Chief of Course, Unterfrauner is not only responsible for preparing and ensuring the safety of the cross-country ski tracks. He is also in charge of creating easily accessible public areas, ensuring logistical access to and technical equipment at the race course and coordinating the mountain rescue. For someone like him, it is important “that everything runs smoothly, that the whole thing works, that we work as a team, that the material needed is always available and everything simply goes fast,” before and during the competitions.
This is why several Würth Bauloc® depots have been set up along the race course. These stationary depots that roughly resemble a container hold all products that are needed to prepare the race course. “Thanks to the containers, we always have the power and hand tools we need on site, directly on the race course. Nobody has to walk far and the volunteers do not have to leave the ski track. This makes our work a lot easier,” Unterfrauner explains.
Würth products in action
The tradespeople and course volunteers can retrieve tools, assembly materials and PPE from the Bauloc® depots. Even in the run-up to the World Ski Championships, many Würth solutions have been in use at the businesses involved, e.g. when assembling the stands, during the construction of a viewing tower on the competition site and the installation of technical equipment.

“We have supported many major winter sport events as a technical and logistical partner in the past, including the modernization of Heini Klopfer Ski Flying Hill. In Seefeld, we can use our official supplier status to demonstrate our expertise in construction site logistics and support the event with our wide range of products,” adds Dieter Münch, Head of Marketing at Würth.
The slogan of the 2019 Nordic World Championships in Seefeld is “Hand in Hand”—which is exactly how Thomas Unterfrauner would characterize the team spirit of Würth: “Würth is a partner that you really can work with hand in hand. With such partners, you can organize and celebrate a World Cup!”
